Mostly there are three types of steel material categorized by hardness. Common (commercial), soft and hard. As we can figure, soft quality is for drawing, deep drawing, extra deep drawing; and hard quality is for structural level, the higher strength it has, the stronger it is.
The core index of drawing quality steel material is “Elongation”, which is expressed by percentage. The higher this index is, the better drawing property it has. Usually the thickness of this type of steel starts from 0.4mm, popular range is 0.6-1.5mm. Different countries have different grades, but their physical performances are nearly the same when they share the same grade level. Take EN standard as an example, DC01 is the common quality, from DC02 to DC07, with the grade number goes higher, the elongation of the material is also higher accordingly.
Core index of structural level steel material is either “Yield Strength” or “Tensile Strength”. The former is used more frequently. The higher this index is, the higher strength the material has. Usually the thickness of this type of steel starts from 0.7mm, popular range is 0.7-2.0mm. Still take EN standard as the example, high tensile grades are from HCT450X to HCT1180X. Of course there are even higher ones with other countries’ grades, like Chinese.
