Factors that affect the price of prepainted steel (Part I)

Raw material price

The raw material mentioned here refers to the most basic base material - hot rolled steel coil (SPHC). The price of it changes in real time. Generally speaking, the base price is issued once a day, and occasionally twice, but when the fluctuation is severe, it will change several times a day.

Cost of production

Production costs include many factors, such as labor, water, electricity, energy consumption, transportation, and equipment. Among them, the one that can make a big difference is production equipment. A set of production lines in small factories may cost millions of yuan, while production lines in large factories are basically all imported and cost tens of millions. Likewise, the quality of the finished prepainted steel varies greatly.

Coating mass

Regardless of whether the substrate is galvanized, galvalume, zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated, or aluminum-silicon coated steel, the thicker the coating, the higher the price. Taking 0.5mm thick galvanized color coated steel as an example, the price difference between 40 grams and 80 grams is about 250 yuan per ton per square meter. It is precisely because of the large price difference that “coating stealing” exists extensively. This phenomenon occurs especially in thin coils, and buyers must be vigilant.

Grade of substrate

Substrate materials of color-coated steel are generally divided into three types: ordinary, full hard and (deep) drawing. The price of full-hard products is the same as that of ordinary ones. There will be a price increase for stamping grade products. Depending on the drawing grade required by the customer, the price increase will be different, about 200-500 yuan/ton.

Paint type

The most widely used paint in the market is PE. The prices of HDP and SMP are about the same. Depending on the thickness, they are 400-1,000 yuan per ton higher than PE. PVDF has the highest price, 3,000-5,000 yuan per ton higher than PE. Of course, it also has a long service life and can be guaranteed not to fade for 20-25 years.
